LAC Transdisciplinary Community

Introduction

The Center for Community and Peer Education changed its gears to establish the “Liberal Arts Transdisciplinary Community JOY FOR YOUNG”, shifting from the current dormitory-based community, to establish the themed Liberal Arts Transdisciplinary Community. We take tailored transdisciplinary learning as our direction, recruiting willing and interested instructors to become themed community Leaders. We’ve also expanded it to students from across the university, allowing students to choose areas they are interested in and wish to explore. Instructors and students work together to create a diverse learning community, not only feeling love and support on-campus, but leading students to establish soft skills such as self-exploration, transdisciplinary knowledge, independent thinking, negotiative communications, group leadership, international vision, social concern, and healthy lifestyle through mutual learning between instructors and students.

Future Plans

The Center for Community and Peer Education plans and holds various activities:

  1. Once a month we hold a “Joy for Young Day”, allowing students and instructors participating in the project the chance to meet, interact and share with students and instructors from other campuses.
  2. “Joy For Young Salon”: According to the set theme, we will invite representative industry professionals or those related to the theme to share a meal with the students, increasing their understanding and experience of the theme through sharing and interaction.
  3. “Joy for Young Final Sharing”: At the end of the semester, we plan to hold a final presentation for the semester, presented through both static and dynamic formats to allow instructors and students from different themes to interact.

Taking liberal arts education, which cultivates future leaders, as our core philosophy, aside from the above activities, the Center for Community and Peer Education will plan to hold “themed lectures” and the “Liberal Arts Active Learning Student Self-Directed Learning Plan”. Proceeding in the four professional, experiential, general, and social and peer aspects, the goal is to develop wise and flexible students, allowing them to implement principled, caring, and contributive rich lives.

1.Planning and Organizing “Themed Lectures”

Emphasizing the cultivation of students’ transdisciplinary and diverse learning, we will plan and hold themed lectures, allowing students to have more diverse opportunities to expand their range. The themes include: life education, arts and life aesthetics, natural exploration of the urban landscape, issues of food and agriculture, self-exploration and community development, finance, psychology, career, and others.

2.“Liberal Arts Active Learning Student Self-Directed Learning Plan

In order to promote students’ soft skill in learning, we take “learning in doing” as our core philosophy to strengthen lived practice and the cultivation of attitude. We encourage students to proactively organize their learning communities, with the responsible instructor advising from the sidelines. Students also proactively participate in managing diverse and transdisciplinary clusters, planning their activities with their interests as the guiding force, while training their teamwork and creating a self-learning environment.
